Whether we’re texting, tweeting or using good old pen and paper, writing is an important part of our lives. The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) urges us to recognize the remarkable variety of writing we engage in every day. At NCTE's request, the U.S. Senate has passed Resolution S.298 declaring October 20, 2011, as the National Day on Writing!
NCTE established and celebrated its first National Day on Writing on October 20, 2009; the NCTE National Gallery of Writing was also unveiled on that day in 2009.
UCLA Lab School students are writers, and like all writers they constantly work to improve their craft. Visit the library to check out some helpful guides, including Jack Prelutsky's Pizza, Pigs, and Poetry: How to Write a Poem, Marion Dane Bauer's What's Your Story? A Young Person's Guide to Writing Ficiton, or Gail Carson Levine's Writing Magic: Creating Stories That Fly.
